The installation A Tale of Becoming Dust for Paxos Biennale 2024 explores themes of growth and decay. Set in the ruin of Kagatika, processed olive tree trunks filled with concrete rest on pedestals of construction reinforcement and are partially burned, evoking tension between nature and human intervention while reflecting the irreversible impact of human actions.
A charcoal mural, based on a 1960s photograph, depicts two young Paxiot women standing beside a tree, each holding it with one hand—a gesture open to interpretation as both protective and an attempt to hold onto something fleeting. Looking out at the viewer from the island's past, the women serve as witnesses to growth and decay, reminding us of our shared responsibility in determining the trajectory of our environment, morality and society as a whole.
